As far as the history of the regiment, I have noticed an apparent connection to the Crescent Regt. At least three members of Nelligan’s became officers in the Crescent. They are Mercer Canfield, Hugh Montgomery and WJ Calvit. With just a cursory look through Booth’s, I see some indication of enlisted men also making the same move. I have wanted to study this connection before but haven’t had the time yet. I suspect that there was a re-organization of Nelligan’s in the spring of 62 at which time these men and others left. There is also some evidence to suggest that they may have passed through Rightor’s 1st Special Battln along the way. It would take some research to track it all down. If you come across a detailed history I would be very interested.
