Omer Boudreaux....lt.co. c (whitaker) 7 la.cav.reg.......affaif at bayou delarge.....5.25-27.1865....lt. pampaneau, (union)1st. la. cac. co k union claims to have left omer boudreaux to die from belly wounds behind n.j. terrions plantation....omer surrendered himself on june 1 1865. he is found guilty of murder, rape,and robbery at thibodaux,la on august 7 1865 and sentenced to hang at new orleans on november 9 1865...the daughters of the confederacy petition, and soon a 40 day stay of execution is granted by gen. canby.....president a. johnson commutes the sentence to life at hard labor to be served at state prison concorde, new hampshire october 27 1865.....prison records do not locate omer boudreaux at new hampshire state prison. additional information i have gathered on omer is that he was the son of valentine boudreaux, and by 1865 his mother is a widow and lives 7 miles from labadieville,la. on bayou delarge...can anone please advise me on the disposition of omer boudreaux after october 27 1865 ? i also search for the location of bayou chemise...one source i used stated it connected to bayou boeuf near morgan city (w) ..but..a certain report from lt pompaneau claims that from the town of bayou boeuf, the home of pierre diegles on bayou chemise, is less than 1 days ride away, over looking a lake...that would indicate bayou boeuf at its intersection with lake des allemands, the opposite end (e) of bayou boeuf...regardless, need disposition of omer boudreaux and location of bayou chemise. any help appreciated.The reason i'm interested in this era/location of the civil war is my gr grandfather basile sance (seaux) was a pvt. in co k 1st reg la cav (union) and much of 1865 was occupied by them searching for 11 of their deserters that fell in with omer boudreaux...again, any information on omer/bayou chemise deeply appreciated.
