Mike, war of the rebellion-battles in lafourche ...on 1..29.1865 General R.A.Cameron,Lafourche sends a message to Frederick Speed at New Orleans stating 'received a report of a raiding party at Labedieville.Dispatched 1st La. Cav Co k. They departed here firing shots as they went'...I found the report of Capt. John Alexander (Co. K) ...the report mentions nothing of the time traveled from Thibodaux to Labedieville. Alexander begins his report from Labedieville to Ploton (Planton) Bayou at Lake Verrett, to Napoleonville ,and eventually back to Thibodaux. This was the only ordered charge I found conducted by the 1st La. Cav. Co k during their short time in the civil war.My gr. grandfather, Basile Sance was struck by a bullet below his right eye during a charge, and carried the scar for the remainder of his life. Is there any report, Union or Confederate, of the Thobodaux to Labedieville portion of this charge ? I believe the C.S.A.'s attack is two prong...the Labedieville portion of this attack is a diversion,conducted by Capt. Whittington forces the 2nd. La. Cav. Co. H ,while the primary attack was being conducted around Donaldsonville, perhaps by the 7th La. Cav. Co. c (Whitaker) ...am I correct in assuming this? Appreciate any assistance.
