Jim, as Dr. Jones stated, the 8th was on the right. From the left the placement was 7 La, 5 La, 54 NC, 6 NC, 57 NC, 8 La, 9 La and 6 La. The 8th was on the high ground supporting Green's Battery. I've been to the site, present day Remington and even though hard to tell with modern obstructions, this may have been the worst placement of a supposed stronghold with only a solitary means of egress. The lesson seems not to have been learned, however, because they did the same thing to a SC brigade by putting them alone on the north side of the North Anna river a few months later and experienced the same results. Fortunately, most of the men captured at Rappahannock Station, minus officers, were exchanged in March 1864. Most if not all of the officers were confined for the remainder of the war at Johnson's Island.
