John, you have an interesting problem. After finding the John Morrison in the 6th La., they have striking similarities. Both wounded at 2nd Fredericksburg but on different days, both captured on April 3rd (the one in the 8th could easily have been captured in a hospital in Richmond, as well). One from Scotland, the other Ireland. The ages are strikingly different: age 47 in 1861 for the one in the 8th and age 30 in 1861 for the one in the 6th. I don't suppose your article mentioned anything about age at death? Different occupations, one a mason, the other a laborer. Not much to go on is it? This is not the John Morrison buried in Rockingham County, VA is it?
