James (Jas) Dunnicliffe (Donnycliff) 8th Louisiana

Dear All

I am trying to find out as much information on James (Jas) Dunnicliffe (Donnicliff) who enlisted in Co A of the 8th Louisiana Infantry

James was born in Pennsylvania and whilst he had a short stint in the Cavalry he found his way to New Orleans and East Baton Rouge where he enlisted at the outbreak of hostilities. He was captured and exchanged when the 8th lost a significant number at I think Weldon RR and following his return he was finally killed at Chancellorsville when the 8th as part of Early division attempted to overrun Sedgwick. He was killed near the Orange Plank Rd during this early evening attack which turned out to be a shambles as it started late and the advance was not uniform. Also the Union forces were waiting and although the initial two lines of union troops were broken the third provided a wall which could not be breached

I hope anyone can assist with any information on James either pre enlistment or during his service

Regards
