In addition....Colonel Henry Watkins Allen, later governor of Louisiana, was seriously wounded at the battle of Baton Rouge. Dr. Amzi Martin was personally sent by General Breckinridge to save his life. Dr. Martin, a native of Baton Rouge, was later surgeon of the 9th Batt. Tenn. cavalry when it operated in the East La./ SW Mississippi areas spring - fall 1863 after which Dr. Martin was ordered to Shreveport and appointed Surgeon General of the Trans- Mississippi Dept.
