Scope and Contents of the Materials
Of special interest to Civil War historians is the combined collections of the Louisiana Historical Association, which was formerly housed in the Confederate Memorial Hall. It consists of correspondence, telegrams, diaries, general and special orders, memoranda, bills and receipts, muster rolls, maps, scrapbooks, newspapers, sheet music, and photographs of the Civil War period, and correspondence, records, and scrapbooks of various Confederate veteran associations. There are also several hundred items dealing with the early history of New Orleans and with prominent families of the region.

The collection consists of over 300 linear feet, covering the period from 1773-1985, and is divided as follows: Administrative Records; Civil War Documents; Confederate Personnel; Jefferson Davis; Confederate States Cavalry; J. A. Chalaron; J. B. Walton; W. W. Hunter; A. C. Van Benthuysen; Albert Sidney Johnston; J. A. Harral; Joseph L. Brent; Memorial Associations; New Orleans; United Confederate Veterans; United Sons of Confederate Veterans; Other Veteran Organizations; Camp Nichols; Army of Tennessee; Board of Pensions; Army of Northern Virginia; Washington Artillery; G. W. Brent; John T. Purves; William H. Thomas; Sheet Music; Muster Rolls; Newspapers; Books and Pamphlets; Maps; and Photographs.
