There must be. A few years ago when visiting the Port Hudson Visitor Center, my wife told the officer at the front desk her great grandfather's name and unit. He typed it into the computer and sure enough, there was her ancestor. The officer printed out a nice looking certificate for my wife stating she was a descendant of a defender during the siege of Port Hudson. I don't think they do that anymore, but they must still have the data base.
