Good Morning, Bob:
I believe you are an old rugby playing friend. I am currently researching the attack on Priest Cap at the seige of Port Hudson LA on 14 June 1863. Specifically, I am involved with the physical interaction between the 4th Massachusetts and the 31st Massachusetts who were part of the main assault line. One source reports that the 4th broke and ran and became entangled with the 31st. I can find no support for this report and no primary source was given. In fact, a first sergeant in the 4th, G.M. Lovering was given a medal of honor for resolving the confusion.
