Alan the March-April muster card in Capttain English's CMSR reads "Present or Absent-Absent detached to Comm S Dept.", I realize this implies that he served with the Post Commissary at Port Hudson, but there is no evidence of that happening. He is also not listed as a officer captured at Port Hudson, in fact he wasn't captured until April of '64 and that was "near Natchez". Couple this with the fact that Lieutenant Wilkins was in command from February '63 to his death in June of that year. One of Captain English's Obits would have you believe that he was at Port Hudson during the siege and another states that he killed a Federal naval officer while at Ellis Cliffs (MS) in the summer of '63.
