I'll try this. My study includes the the original organization and service at Fort McRee, though I haven't dealt much with this as yet. It is interesting to me that records show his rotation as Provost Marshall, began on 21 Jan 1863 as it was reported a month and a half earlier in the Natchez newspaper. It is also interesting to me that there is a reciept from 1 July 1863 in his file with Villepique's regiment as English's Battery (or one of it many other designations) was an independent battery though the NQLA did serve with Villepique in '61-62, but this (Bayou La Fourche) might be where he was during the missing period. I haven't gotten to these files since I couldn't get them in Jackson. I will most likely be ordering them through the service here as I need a few others from the NQLA.
