Per Booth's records, here is the information avaialble on him:

Gardner, Henry C., Capt. Co. C, 1st Special Battn. (Wheat's) La. Inf. En. April 25, 1861. New Orleans. Rolls from June, 1861, to April, 1862, Absence or presence not stated. Appears on List dated Camp Carondelet. near Manassas, Va., Jan. 11, 1862. Apptd. April 28, 1861, to Capt. Remark: Co. C, was mustered into service on the 28th of April in Louisiana.

Hope this gives you a bit of information.

There is a book 'planned' on being published about the 1st. It has been this way for a couple of years.
