Interesting about Wheat's Battalion. I was compiling a list of all the men paroled at Meridian belonging to Gibson's Louisiana Brigade and I kept noticing men who belonged to Wheat's Battalion (along side the names I was going through). Didnt show any new units they were affiliated with either. I know the unit was in Virginia and then disbanded but why would there be so many men from the battalion paroled at Meridian, Miss. in 1865? Perhaps discharged men who didnt move back to occupied New Orleans?
