Colonel Jesse Williams - 2nd LA

Terry:

I leaped to the assumption that the 2nd Louisiana was at Winchester in May 1862 with Taylor's Brigade without checking my facts! My apologies! But you have confirmed through examining the CMSR that Colonel Williams and QM Sergeant J. M. Williams are two different people. Jesse M. Williams was elected Captain of the Pelican Rifles (Company D) at Camp Walker while J. M. Williams enrolled at Camp Walker as a Private in the same company according to Booth.

I'm still having trouble with accepting the removal of Colonel Williams' body from Spotsylvania Court House to Winchester without some contemporary documentation (newspaper account, diary account, or letter home) noting the event. He may have been a lesser known Confederate officer, but he was not one to go unnoticed. Has anyone challenged/examined the Mt. Hebron "Stonewall" Cemetery list to see where the list of names came from?

Hugh
