16th La's Original Officers' Experience

I need to pick the brains of the Louisiana experts:

When a soldier of the 17th Louisiana described the 16th Louisiana (while at Camp Moore) he said: “The 16th Regt is well drilled, much better than ours. The 16th. has had the best drilled officers in the State.”

Presont Pond was the Colonel, Enoch Mason the Lt. Colonel and Daniel Gober the Major. Perhaps he was talking of the lower grade officers but here's my question: Gober was a physician from Ville Platte and I know nothing of the other two offices, would anyone have some good biographical information on Pond and Mason to shed some light?

Thanks guys.
