The formation of the Yancey Rangers and Yancey Guards is noted in the October 3 1860 edition of New Orleans' Daily Delta, newspaper. H. N. Rayburn was identified as President of the committee who were organising the group. Its formation was linked to the 1860 election campaign. I can't find any indication that either organisation survived 1860.
