Amos Fisher, Co. B , 8th La. Cavalry

Amos Fisher of Avoyelles Parish was a Pvt., in Company B, 8th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment. There was an Amos Fisher Jr. (my great great grandfather) who was born on Bayou Rouge (Avoyelles Parish) in abt. 1821 and died sometimes before December 1865 (Estate papers- family meeting). His son, Amos Kendal Fisher (my great grandfather) was born on Bayou Rouge on 17 March 1849 and died there 10 March 1940. Thus, the Amos Fisher listed in the surrender of on May 26, 1865 could have been either a very young private (Amos “K”) or an older one (Amos “Jr.”). Based on the little that I know of the conscription laws, I am inclined to believe that the private was Amos Jr. rather than his son Amos K. Critical comments concerning this assumption and/or any relevant information concerning the problem are requested and will be appreciated.

I have cobbled together a list of the men in this company from electronic records. However, the only information that I have on this activities of the 8th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment is from Bergeron. Any additional information (references, stories, anecdotes, etc.) about the unit or its men would also be appreciated.
