Thanks for your input. Yes the Crescent Regiment was organized in New Orleans and later disbanded after severe losses at Shiloh and when their 90 day enlistment expired. When it reorganized, a large part of the new recruits were from DeSoto parish and the surrounding area. I have muster roll cards for my GGGrandfather that showed he enlisted in October, 1862 in Monroe in Co. C of the Crescent Regiment. When it became the Consolidated Crescent his company then became Co. G. What is confusing me is that I believe the Crescent was deployed in south Louisiana at that time.

The Desoto Parish historical society has an account by a great-uncle of mine that says the group of Desoto recruits were called the Mansfield Rifles. I haven't seen another reference to that group anywhere else. How did those recruits travel from Mansfield to Monroe and then on to South Louisiana? Were they sponsored by a wealthy patron? I don't know if there are any records to support any of this. The Monroe library geneologist said Monroe has no record of enlistments even though I know that Monroe was used as an enlisment center. Any ideas how to pursue?
