The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

I have looked into Capt Dale...

Dale like a number of Louisiana soldiers in the Army of Northern Virginia served in anumber of units, this was due to the transfer of the company a number of times. LSU has a couple of letters that gives information on the company's uniforms and the reason for the transfer to Coppens command.

This was one of the many items I was looking into, as I found a full 15%+ served in other units. Many transfered to the 7th Louisiana as its commanders were very popular. Some went on to served in units like Mosby's command, transportion units, other regiments in the Army of Northern Viringia, a few served in other states like Texas, Miss., Tenn., but most went home to Louisiana and served in units in the state.

My relatives served in units from Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana (7th La.).

The Williams side of the family had the member in the 7th Louisiana and he dead in Virginia and is buried in the far fields from his home. His wife and childern had help durning the war from an Indian (who lived down the road a few miles) to plow the fields. This was in 1862-65 in Livingston Parish. I have wondered now many Indians were still living in the Florida Parishes durning the war.

Two sides of my family were in Livingston Parish before and durning the war.

The Martin side was in the area of Union Springs, Alabama.
