Hello, I am gggrandfather John R. Hicks(sergeon) was with patton and N.G. Watts at vicksburg and survived. It seems harder than hens teeth to collect all his records, I've tried..conventional ie library of congress ect. I had some luck (and best) at the N.O. public library on Tulane ave. Tons of cival war records there. But I am still searching for more without paying to join some web site with limited information and a big fee to look.
