The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Bruce.....

I know this is way after the fact, but count my GG-Grandfather, Francois Desire Chaplain who was a Lt. in 20th Louisiana Regiment.

Francois came to the Louisiana in about 1844 from "Mont Sur Laine", France, with his father Louis Pierre and uncle Charles Theodore. Louis and Francois settled in New Orleans while Charles Theodore settled in nearby St. Bernard Parish. Francois married a French born lady in New Orleans, Jeanne-Anne "Anna" Coumes (from SW of Toulouse), in 1860, was a Baker, and joined the 20th La. Infantry Regiment in 1863.

He survived the war, became a US citizen in 1875, moved to Paris in about 1878, worked as a baker, rented bakers equipment and stores, leased apartments, and died in Paris in 1910.
