for the red river campaign Banks organization order from opelousas,la 3.16.1863 makes mention of co a,b,c,e. no co. k... was it formed yet, and if so where was it? banks order at carolltown 4.30.1865 names two co. k's....one at terre bonne, the other at thibodeaux, one is captain j.h.alexanders outfit , one is capt c.s.gray]s outfit... in the 1st regiment listing, nothing is mentioned of co k after 5.27.1865... did they disband and incorporate with another unit...banks is replaced after the red river campaign but, returns to command 4.22.1865, only to be replaced again 5.7.1865...,and i believe the army of the gulf is disbanded about this time ,not certain of exact dates...also. Gen. Sheridan commands all forces w. of miss. river, s. of ark. river 5.7.1865...what i would need is a history of co. k from beginning to end...from 5.12.1865 (the date 1st regiment musterd out) where is co. k.
