That may be possible. News of Lee's surrender had circulated among soldiers of both sides, but Macon GA was under Gen. Johnston's military command. Accordingly the armistice concluded between Generals Johnston and Sherman applied (or should have applied) to troops in this area. As I recall, General Cobb at Macon was outraged that General Wilson and his officers didn't respect terms of the armistice.
