i've established enough information about basile saux to provide a somewhat satisfactory service record.basil was in the xix corp,1st la. cav. (vol.), 1st reg., co k. this co. did not fight in the teche campaign and red river campaign. basile joined oct. 4,1864 and mustered out aug. 28, 1865 (new orleans) that co. was raised from the local populace of thibodeaux,la and served the la fourche region. at that time he joins 1st la. cav. is at morganza /baton rouge region .they go to ala./ fla. and fight while co. k remains at la fourche. when 1 st la. cav. returns they are (co k also) sent to washington, la..at washington, la 1st. la. cav. is sent to vicksburgh, whil co. k remains to handle the insurection at franklin,la. (july 1865)...u.s. grant issues orders to p. sheridan to dispose of the cav. in new orleans because their equiptment is needed for regular cav units in texas. basile is mustered out aug. 28. 1865 with just 10 months of service. in 1915 basile receives a $19.00 pension.,his salary in the cav. was #16.00 a month. the thibodeaux massacre of 1887 (25 years after the civil war) was started because a field hand received $13.00 a month...in 1864 the union army is paying $16.00 a month... 10 months of service(in my mind)does not justify a #19.00 pension. basile joined for 3 years...did the union 'honor' the three years and paid him for 3 years, or is that the correct amount for 10 months ?
