Re: W.C. Quantril and James Brothers

I have researched and compiled a book, THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF QUANTRILL'S GUERRILLAS. There is a lot of misconception about the raid on Lawrence. There were several things that built up to that raid. The James brothers were not at Lawrence; the Youngers were.

Contrary to movies, Quantrill gave the order that no woman or children were to be harmed. Only men old enough to carry a gun were to be killed. Quantrill saved several men, as did Cole Younger and Fletch Taylor.

Their main purpose was to get Jim Lane, take him back to Missouri and hang him for the atrocities he carried out in Missouri. Lane sacked, burned and murdered men in Osceola, Missouri. He told his men to take everything "from a shanghai rooster to a durham cow." This was just one of the things that led to the raid.

General William T. Sherman burned states! He (in some places, I guess) is supposedly a hero, while Quantrill a despicable scoundrel. Quantrill is more noted for his raid on Lawrence, one town! I ask you, if the South would have won, who would be the hero and the scoundrel?

Sorry, about the tirade. I tend to get carried away when it comes to Quantrill and his men. I tend to come to their rescue, because there have been so much negativity written about them.

If you want more information about Quantrill and Lawrence, just e-mail me, and I will be happy to help you. I want you to have the truth. I have a website at www.geocities.com/outlaw72532/techie.html
