I checked the search engine and found no mention of the 2nd Colorado Regiment which I know served quite a bit in Mo chasing Bushwackers and also fighting Price at Westport. Some authors credit the 2nd Colo has being very effective I wonder what you folks know of them. I know the 7th Mo Cal fought hard against Quantrills band at Lone Jack. From what I gather being a Union Soldier chasing Bushwackers was not a whole lot of fun because there horses were inferior to the fine Mo horses so they couldn't get away if they had to and it was hard to catch the Bushwackers on their superior mounts. The Bushwackers had the Sharps carbine and lots of Colt revolvers vs the Calvery's single shot rifles. I don't know if the Dept of War thought well enough of the Federal forces in Mo to issue them the Spencer or Henrey repeating rifles which were far better then what CSA units were issued.

What do you folks know about the 7th Kansas? I know they were accused of what back then would be called "Hooliginism" . I know in 1862 the 7th Kan was assigned to Grants forces fighting in Cornith, Miss I don't know if they fought well or kept away from the CSA forces.

I imagine it was real joy to be in the EMM. No pay no issued weapons and they had to join or be subject to arrest. The EMM could "requisition" supplies from disloyal families which did not make them real popular with the Bushwackers. Were the EMM very effective to the Union cause or more of a hinderence to the Union cause?

Anybody know about the "Paw-Paws" they were paroled mebers of Prices Home Guard who promised the Federal Authorities that they would form milita units to keep out Bushwackers.
