Brad,

Your man is CPT Godfrey Luthey who became commander of Company G, 45th MO Infantry Regiment when it was organized in Warrensburg in September 1864. My source is the MO Adjutant General's Report for the Year 1865. Based on the mail addresses of some of the other officers, it appears the 45th was recruited across central MO from Johnson County east to Cole County, especially Pettis and Cooper Counties. The 45th Regiment was sent 1 Oct 1864 to help prepare and conduct the defense of Jefferson City from MG Sterling Price's raid of 11,000 Confederate troops that roared along a few days later. The MO Adj. Gen. report also states that CPT Luthey was transferred under Dept. of the MO Special Order # 102 to Company D, 48th MO Infantry Regiment some time in 1865. Looking at the roster of that company in the same source I see that it's original officers were mustered out on 23 March 1865, so perhaps that is when CPT Luthey perhaps with both of your Rainwaters transferred over to the 48th. If you haven't already, you will want to send off for their military service records probably from both NARA in Washington, D.C. and MO State Archives in Jefferson City.

I hope that helps.
