Re: BARRET'S BTRY
In Response To: BARRET'S BTRY ()

Barret's Battery was also known as the 10th MO Artillery Battery. Captain Overton Winston Barret, the commander, is a distant cousin of mine. The unit served with the Army of TN, I believe, and was captured at Columbus, GA, 4-16-65.

By the way, you spelled Barret correctly. The family has always used one "t". Legend has it that they came from France many years ago.

Captain Barret's service record isn't clear on whether or not he was with the battery until the very end. If anyone knows for sure, I'd greatly appreciate an e-mail.

I believe one of Captain Barret's brothers, Dick?, was a MO congressman prior to the war.
