This Clay Taylor would have been about the right age to have attended Dorn's Military School in St. Louis in the mid-1840s.

I'd suggest you look at the St. Louis Directories in the 1843-47 period to see if any "Major Law" is mentioned. As I mentioned earlier, a long time ago I looked at the 1845 and 47 directories but did not find mention of the military school--or A. J. Dorn.
