Re: Company C, First Missouri Infantry,CSA

The original Co C, 1st MO Infantry Regt, CSA, was organized in 1861 at Memphis, TN, and included many men from Carondelet, just outside St. Louis, and was known as the Carondelet Guards. The 1st Infantry fought at Shiloh. The 1st and 4th MO Infantry Regts were consolidated due to losses in Nov, 1862. The regiment then fought in most of the major engagement of the Vicksburg Campaign and surrendered there on 4 Jul 1863. By the spring of 1864 the consolidated 1st & 4th MO Infantry had been exchanged after its parole at Vicksburg. It next participated in the Atlanta Campaign, fighting at New Hope Church,Latimer's Mill, Kennesaw Mountain, and Atlanta. It also did service at Jonesboro and Lovejoy's Station. The reginment accompanied Gen. Hood on his invasion of TN in the fall of 1864 and fought hard at Allatoona, GA and Franklin, TN. It was last engaged at Ft. Blakely, AL on 9 Apr 1865 and surrendered at that point. I believe that most of the men were paroled at Jackson, MS. Hope this helps some.
