Missouri Flag

Some of you all may have seen this beautiful Missouri flag when it was offered for sale. I note that it has been sold. It always saddens me to think that it may be leaving the country. You never know.

A word of caution to you good folk who own anything of worth: When I was researching for my book "Flags of Civil War South Carolina" I found the flag of the Palmetto Sharpshooters. It had really made the rounds on the collectors market. I tracked it to a gentleman in Pennsylvania who had enjoyed it for awhile, produced a very nice photographic poster with it as the centerpiece of the poster, and then donated it to a new museum in Philadelphia. I suppose he thought it would be appreciated. The flag is being offered at auction (same site as above) for $195,000. It will probably be bid up from that.
If you have anything of value, intrinsic or personal, you should be aware that there are people who are willing to take advantage of you anyway you allow. If you would consider displaying your treasure in a museum, do it on a loan basis, and get a legal document verifying the exchange as such. My friend in Pennsylvania must be nauseous beyond repair.
