Re: MO 1st & 4th Cons Inf. Co K

Dear Jim,
Family anecdotes say that Thomas died while in the Civil war and that was all I had to go on. Thomas' family lived in the Ozarks area of MO & AR and he was born in IL in abt 1845. Janet B. Hewitt's roster of Confederate Soldiers and other indices list 4 Thomas FOntaine/Fountains. One is Thomas D Fontaine, Sig. Corps, CSA: The aforementioned Thomas J. Fontaine, MO 1st & 4th cons. Inf., Co. K., 2nd Lt; and then another index lists Thomas A. Fountain,KY 4th Cav. co G; Thomas J. FOuntain, 1st Inf. Co. I 2nd Lt. I suspect the 2nd & 4th entries here are the same person. My purpose is to try and find out more about these men to see if I can rule out anyone before I send for servce records.
Thank you for the reference to Anders' book. I will try and look at it.
Michele
