Re: Diaries of Men Aboard CSS Arkansas

There is a short letter from Capt Sam Harris to W. T. Thompson in the M. Jeff Thompson Collection at Tulane University that touches on the Arkansas. However, it contains no details of Harris' experiences and is primarily a list of the officers that served on the ironclad. By the way, Harris commanded a battery he recruited at New Madrid in 1862, and volunteers from it served on the Arkansas. It was then consolidated into the 6th MO Infantry Regiment as Co D. Harris' other battery, the 4th MO Field Artillery, was effectively a reorganization of the 13th Mo Battery in late 1863 or early 1864 and served as horse artillery in Marmaduke's Brigade.
