"USRC" means United States Reserve Corps. There were five regiments of these northerners mostly from St. Louis (1st through 5th)who served during much of 1861. As I recall, these were six month regiments. Yes they were infantry.

If you will print the deceased's name, perhaps someone can find the man on a roster of one of the five regiments.
