I would stress that Captain Boone's service was with the 1st Cavalry Regiment of the III Division of the Missouri State Guard and not with the 1st Missouri (C. S.) Cavalry Regiment. The former was purely a State organization, the latter were volunteers in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States. These are wholey separate organizations. The 1st Missouri Cavalry was largely recruited from the IV and V Divisions, not the III.
