During the Little Rock Campaign of 1863, a temporary Union fortifcation in east Arkansas was known as "Fort Russell." I believe that it may have been named for a soldier who died during the campaign. A query of the Soldiers and Sailors index reveals the following Russells who served in Missouri units in the campaign:
1st Cavalry: John Russell, Joseph Rusell, Michael Russell
2nd Cavalry: John Russell
Third Cavalry: Thomas Russell
8th Cavalry: Robert T. Russell
Does anyone know whether any of these Union cavalrymen may have died during July 1863? Thanks for any help.
