Re: Col Lawther, Partisan Rangers

I doubt that there is much, if any, connection between Lawther's Paritsan Rangers and the 10th MO Cavalry Regiment. If my recollection is correct, the companies Lawther commanded at the time of his capture (the "Partisan Rangers) were broken up. In December 1863 three or four new companies of exchanged Vicksburg prisoners were added to Young's MO Cavalry Battalion (the 11th) to form the 10th MO Cavalry Regiment. Lawther was elected colonel, Merritt L. Young, lt. col., and G. W. C. Bennett, major. It was then attached to Marmaduke's Brigade for the balance of the war.
