Frank James & Arch Clements

I found the following information while searching through "The Milan Standard", Milan, Missouri 25 Feb 1915 page 2 col. 1 at the State Historical Society of Missouri, Columbia, MO.

"Frank James Dies Cole Younger Only Gang Member Left"

[from Elcesior Springs, MO paper]

"Somewhere in Kentucky Frank James and Arch Clements, who had been Bill Anderson's first Lieutenant in the operations in Northern Missouri, stood up together for a tintype.

About 12 years ago, when Frank James was living in a flat in St. Louis, he loaned the tintype to the writer for newspaper reproduction.

Arch Clements the Bravest

'This the the first time,' he remarked, in his quiet, measured tone, 'that this picture has been out of my possession in 37 years. The detectives would have been mighty glad to get it during my outlawery.'

Frank James said at the time that Arch Clements was the bravest man he ever knew. Clements was killed near Independence, Mo., at the close of the war, when he went in to surrender."

I believe the article was much longer. I have never found that photo, but I do have one of Jesse James and Arch Clements. Write me if you would like an electronic copy.
