Cyrus Jones

Are there any records of Confederate spies? My gggrandfather, Cyrus (or Mosias)Jones, b. 8 May 1818, and his son, James Howard Jones, b. 28 Dec 1849, were, reportedly, spies. Their home was invaded by Union Soldiers in 1863 and burned to the ground. Both men escaped and the family first went to Kansas and then to Oregon.

They were on the Howard Co. census in 1850, and Mercer co., in 1860, so I'm guessing that they were still living in Mercer Co., in 1863.

Cyrus' wife was Mary Jane Thompson, whose brothers, Howard Ellis Thompson, and Uriah W. Thompson died in the Union prison, Alton Federal Prison, in Illinois. Two other brothers James and Willoughby, also died during the Civil War.

Any advice on sources of information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Betty
