MO State Militia-St. Joseph, MO

I am the Great-Great Granddaughter of Frederick August Heinrich Seifert who came to St. Joseph, Missouri from Prussia in 1953 by way of Easton, PA. He brought my Great-Great Grandmother, Veronika Ohenberg Seifert, and baby daughter to St. Joseph in 1860 where there was a large German community. I strongly suspect that he belonged to the Prussian calvary since at age 41 he enlisted in CO B, Major Berry's Battalion formerly attached to 13th Regt, MO Vols (upper)on the 12th of August, 1861, was discharged at St. Joseph, MO Feb 3, 1862. He re-enlisted in CO E. 5th Reg't MO State Militia Calvary Feb 20, 1862 at St. Joseph and was discharged June 22, 1863. He was a corporal in the 13th Reg't and a private in the 5th Reg't.

Besides wanting to learn more about these units, I also want to learn more about daily life for the soldier and the families
