Re: Bush Smith (Anderson?) of Texas.

Hi Jay,
In the notes for William Columbus Anderson: He was born Feb.07,,1841 in Missouri and died Nov. 01,1927 in Brown County, Texas. He married (1) Maggie Bush Smith 1863 in Sherman,Texas. He married Martha Missouri Elizabeth Anderson abt. 1865 in Brown County,Texas, daughter of Moses Anderson and Jane George.

William Anderson, because of his name and where he lived in Missouri, was mistaken for "Bloody Bill" Anderson, the outlaw who rode with Quantrill's Raiders. He was nearly killed when a shot aimed at him ,missed and instead killed another man. After that he decided it was a good idea to move to Texas.

His descendents still believe he was the infamous outlaw, even though the man died in Missouri after many killings were attributed to him and his followers. The outlaw's bloody death was shown in newspapers of the day and several books on the History of the SW Missouri Raiders relate his murderous trail and end.

The above information was sent to me several years ago. I believe the story about this William C. Anderson needs more research. I find his sisters not to be the correct age of the sisters that were in the falling building in Mo. also his brother Jim was not the Jim whose throat was slit at the Court House in Texas. He lived on in Texas.

I do have the Obituary for this William C.Anderson if you want me to post it.Interesting to say the least. Glynda
