Avilla Guards of Jasper Co. MO

My Grtgrtgrandfather Renard Napper served in the Avilla Home Guards in Sarcoxie twp. Jasper Co. MO. He enlisted in the 23rd B. Co. Iowa Infantry (Union) on August 7th 1862 and was mustered out at the end of the war. (I know the reason why he had to enlist in a different state as he being a political prisoner for about a month until after the battle of Wilson Creek, when an order was made to release all political prisoners)
In a deposition of his, he says he went into the Avilla Guards in the spring of 1861. I was wanting to know where I can find info on the guards (Avilla mainly). Any help appreciated. Thanks
