Union headstones were rounded and confederate stones were sharp pointed. The question is why pointed?
One story was the confederates made them pointed to prevent yankee soliders from sitting on there headstones but seems to be a myth.

Years of research finds no valid reason for the pointed stones.

While searching old cemeteries in Arkansas I found tent graves and pointed stones in a civilian cemetery, very old and abandomed. Was the pointed stones a religious thing?

Anyone out there who knows the answer please let me know. I was asked by Dr. Ken Jones, noted Civil War archiver as he would like to put the answer in a book he is working on (Burial locations of Alabama Civil war soldiers).
