Tom, Thanks for your responce. If we're talking about the same man. W. L. H. Frazier was a Barry County judge in the 1850's.
I dug out the compiled service records that I ordered sometime ago for a distant uncle William Walter Rice, who served in the 8TH MO INF. CSA. Does Mr. Banasik's book have a entry for him?
This is the data I gleaned from his CMSR. It's sort of confusing with different dates and places of enlistment.
Company Muster Roll [Oct. 6, 1862] Co. I, Mitchell's Regt, Mo, Inf.

Company Muster Roll [Oct. 31, 1862] Co. C, Frazier's Battn, Mo. Inf.
Enlisted: Sept. 10, 1862; Where: Barry Co., Mo; By whom: Maj. Lauderdale; Period: 3 yrs.
Company Muster Roll [March - April, 1863] Co. I, Mitchell's Regt, Mo, Inf.
Enlisted: Aug. 10, 1862; Where: Barry Co., Mo; By whom: Maj. Lauderdale; Period: 3 yrs; Remarks: "Died in Hospital Little Rock March 9, 1863"
Also does the book say anything about this Maj. Lauderdale? He was evidently a recruiting officer for this unit. The link to the Missouri State Archives you provided shows a Robert Lauderdale who served as a 1st Lt. in Co. I or K. He is listed on the 1860 Barry County census.
