I've not got a Jasper Dennis in the mix yet.
What I have found out is Carrol Dennis was a cousin to Joel John etc... He switched sides in 1863 and joined 3rd MSM.
The Dennis family connects back to Young Finas Stephens of Greenville MO who was murdered Jul 4 1864 on his farm by Union soldiers. His wife was banished to Illinois for the duration of the war.
His daughter Virginia was married to Lewis Holmes, brother to Rufus Holmes as part of the Memorial 7.
His daughter Amelia was married to Benjamin F Holmes, brother to Rufus and Lewis above. As in Lt. Col Benjamin Holmes 12th MO Inf CSA. A cohart of Sam Hilderbrand, Tim Reeves and others, See Autobiography of Sam Hildebrand ed Kirby Ross. Reason enough for any number of folks to summarily execute Rufus Holmes.
His daughter Martha was married to William Dennis, brother to Joel, John, etc.
(The Holmes family lived on a farm that was home of "Rebel Cave" a tourist cave in the 1960 &70's)
As before mentioned Joel Dennis was keeping house with Elizabeth Slagle in 1870. Interestingly most of the Slagle's of Bollinger/Stoddard Co were Union in sympathy, a number being killed/bushwacked during the war.
The Dennis family is a bit difficult to follow as it appears the vast majority of them disappear between 1860 and 1870 census reports. I suspect that having a housefull of combat eligible boys in 1862-1865 is part of the answer.
More to come as I weed it out.
