Goodspeed's History of Barry County provides a list of "Taxpayers and Soldiers of 1861." Each name is followed by a parenthetical designating the soldier/taxpayer as C or F. Both of my third-great-grandfathers are listed as Confederate. The only documentation I can find for either shows him as a member of the EMM and PEMM (thanks, Bob Banks) and thus Federal not Confederate. I can find no documentation for the other's service on either side, though I know he spent the last three years of the war in Texas.

Does anyone know where Goodspeed came by this list, or how accurate it is generally?

Does anyone have any information on Barry Countians who might have "Gone to Texas?"
