The information that I have on Cpt. Sarah Cooley was sent to me by a Cooley researcher. Under her father's history, it lists her as Cpt. Sarah Cooley and states she served in the Southern Army under General Price in 1863. Where are some of the places General Price might have been in 1863? Sarah was my GG Grandmother.
Sarah's brother, John Samuel died in Union prison during the war but I do not know where. Her other brother, Joseph Cooley has a very interesting discription of his experience during the war and in prison which is on Papashoe site on Rootsweb or Ancestry. The father was William Cooley, also a prisoner of war.
It is possible that Sarah may have served under her married name which was Knight. I do not know her husband's first name or where they were married. The story in our family is that his name was Knight and he was killed by bushwhackers on his porch. I do not know where that happend either. Sarah Cooley and her second husband, my GG Grandfather, George Washington Heifner are both buried at the Darksville cemetery, near Huntsville, Mo in Randolph county, Mo.
I appreciate any help in unraveling the story of my GG Grandmother during the Civil War.
