Re: Sarah Elizabeth Cooley; CSA???

I do not believe that Sarah Elizabeth Cooley's first husband was Phillips. Her daughter, Nettie, in her first marriage married a Phillips. I have the obit from one of Nettie's sons and the name was definitely Phillips. Older members of my family thought her first husband's name was Knight and I have seen it on Family Search as Knight. They have Nettie's name there as Nellie. However, that is not a confirmation the name was Knight but I know her son in law's name was Phillips.

It is a bit confusing also on the other site you sent with the 1880 census of Jacob Heifner listed on the same site as George Washington And Sarah Elizabeth Heifner. Jacob was a brother to George Washington. Their father was Bartholomew Heifner, born Ky, married in Shelby County, In and settling in Randolph County, Mo. Other members of the Heifner family also served in the Confederate Army. The Gipson family that married into the Heifner family served in the Union Army. I wonder how that was all handled when Levy Heifner married Isaac Gipson, my great grandparents. Perhaps that is why we never heard about the Civil War at family reunions.
