The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Sarah Elizabeth Cooley; CSA???

How did you find this information on George W. Heifner and is there any way to learn where he was from, etc.? I did not find any Heifner's from Mo. serving in the Union Army, although I did find my GG Grandfather, Daniel B. Gipson on that side.

The story of my GG Grandparents, George Washington Heifner and Sarah Elizabeth Cooley Knight Heifner has become even more complicated with this new information, if correct, that he served in the Union and her family, and perhaps, even she on the Confederate side. Isn't genealogy and history interesting?

Six children were born and died during this marriage at various, young ages. Only two children survived. My Great Grandmother, Levy Jane Heifner Gipson and her brother, Elbert Heifner. Elbert was a twin and the twin brother died very young. How I wish the family had told us more about their lives. One can only imagine enduring a long Civl War that tore apart communities and families and then rebuilding, only to see so many children die young. Thanks to all who have tried to help unravel this story.
